KARACHI, Feb 23: Sindh Health Adviser Faisal Malik has suggested that anti-polio days should be observed on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays keeping in view religious and cultural customs of local people , as better results can be obtained when maximum children and their parents will be available at their homes.

In the interior of Sindh, he said that special teams had been formed for administration of polio drops to children in far off areas in which women had been particularly included. He was talking to a four-member delegation, led by WHO Adviser for Director General Dr David Hamen, on Wednesday.

Referring to the last campaign, he said that anti-polio drops were also administered with the help of police and Rangers to children travelling in buses and coaches as well as those on bus stops.

The delegation appreciated the steps taken by the adviser and noted that due to interest taken by him, success was achieved in despatching polio teams to far off areas. Faisal Malik said that he would make surprise visits to districts along with media to review the performance of health department officials and polio teams during the next anti-polio campaign. -APP
