Kallis rested for Zimbabwe ODI series

Published February 20, 2005

JOHANNESBURG, Feb 19: Top South African batsman Jacques Kallis has earned his rest and will not play in one-day international cricket series against Zimbabwe.

The convener of selectors, Haroon Lorgat said: "I spoke to four senior players - captain Graeme Smith, Kallis, Shaun Pollock and Makhaya Ntini and asked them if they wanted to be given rest period for entire tour or if they wanted to play in some matches.

"A decision was taken to rest Kallis in one-day series, but he will play in Tests. Others will play in some matches," Lorgat said. The first one-day match will be played in Johannesburg on Feb 25.

South Africa will also play two Tests against Zimbabwe. With Pollock and Ntini not playing in all matches, door will be open for Charl Langeveldt and Monde Zondeki to play for national team again. -PPI
