MIRPURKHAS, Feb 19: Drain water has accumulated on roads and streets in the Satellite Town after busting of main sewerage line here on Saturday.
Gutters have started overflowing in the Scheme-2, Aurangabad, Bhansinghabad, Walkart, Panhwar and Malik Riaz colonies. Sanitary staff of the taluka municipal administration reached the spot and started repair work on the sewerage line which continued till the filing of this report. The area residents complained that it was an old sewerage line which had burst several times within one year.
SECURITY: Security was beefed up in the district on Saturday to prevent any untoward incident during Aashura. Officials of law enforcing agencies with police are patrolling the city roads. Police personnel have been deputed along mourning processions and at sensitive areas, Imambargahs, mosques, main roundabouts and entry and exit points of the city.
Close circuit cameras have been fixed at different buildings to keep watch on miscreants. Different organizations have set up medical camps at the roundabouts of market, post office and railway station and Umerkot road.
PPP: A meeting of the executive committee of the district chapter of the People's Party Parliamentarians was held here on Friday and presided over by Haji Noor Hassan Chandio.
It prepared a strategy about coming local bodies' elections, reviewed applications of candidates from different union councils and decided to extend date of submission of the applications to February 25 due to Aashura.
SIDA: The general manager, transition, Sindh Irrigation Drainage Authority, Prof Aijaz Qureshi, has said the purpose of organizing training programmes for farmers is to strengthen farmers' organizations to ensure judicious distribution of water, recovery of water taxes and proper unitization of funds for monitoring distributaries.
He was speaking at the concluding day of a training programme organized by the social development cell of Sida for farmers at the Nara Canal Area Water Board's office here.
