KARACHI, Feb 14: The KWSB on Monday reinstated 283 employees against vacant posts on the directives of the city Nazim, Niamatullah Khan.

In all, there were over 1,100 employees who were appointed by former local government minister, Nadir Magsi, but were removed about four years back. However, 573 dismissed employees had filed a case in the Supreme Court and were reinstated following the court verdict in their favour. The remaining 534 employees had requested the City Nazim that since their case was similar to that of 573 other employees, they should also be reinstated.

All the leftover dismissed employees who had applied for their reinstatement about four months back were reinstated by the Nazim on Monday after he signed 283 orders on Monday at the NICVD where he had gone following some pain in his chest.

Shortly afterwards, the KWSB managing director, Brig Iftikhar Haider, directed the deputy managing director (finance), Arshad Javaid, to implement the Nazim's orders pertaining to reinstatement of employees in letter and spirit. Asked about the fate of remaining 251 dismissed employees, a KWSB spokesman said the Nazim had assured that the remaining employees would also be reinstated shortly.

Meanwhile, the KWSB managing director, Brig Iftikhar Haider, on Monday, warned the board's tax department to improve the recovery position, or else there is a possibility of giving tax department in private sector by the government.

Expressing dissatisfaction over the performance of tax department, he cautioned the officials to either achieve the recovery target, or face disciplinary action, and they would also be transferred. The meeting was attended, among others, by DMD (Taxes) Syed Akhlaq Hussain, KWSB Secretary, Mehmood Qadir and directot (Taxes) Mohammad Aslam.
