HYDERABAD, Feb 13: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal has criticized the government for failing to control price hike and maintain law and order in the province.

Speaking at the local bodies' convention, organized by the Jamaat-i-Islami on Sunday, MMA MPA Hameedullah Khan also deplored joblessness in Sindh. He claimed that the MMA government in the NWFP had provided relief to people. He said the prime minister had expressed satisfaction over financial matters of the NWFP government.

He maintained that before introduction of the City District Government Karachi there were 92 colleges and the Niamatullah Khan-led city government had established 32 colleges in its tenure. He said working of the city district government had been acknowledged domestically and abroad.

The MPA recalled a statement of Planning and Development Minister Shoaib Bukhari that there was no need of new colleges and said it reflected his lack of interest in affairs of Karachi. He stated that the Muttahida Qaumi Movement was unhappy over the flurry of development activities in Karachi.

Hyderabad MMA president district Abdul Waheed Qureshi said if people gave another opportunity to religious parties they would not disappoint them and solve their problems at their doorsteps. He added that there were no corruption charges against members of the Al-Khidmat group of the JI.

City JI Ameer Shaikh Shaukat Ali said the Al-Khidmat group would contest the local bodies' election under the MMA's Ittehad-i-Millat Group. Rana Mehmood Ali Khan of the Al-Khidmat group said changes were needed to made in the existing local bodies system and called for delegation of administrative and financial powers at the union council level.
