KARACHI, Feb 3: A man was shot dead by unidentified persons during his 'mehndi' ceremony late on Wednesday night in Rizvia Society.
Police said that the ceremony was being held in a ground near Hasan Askari School, where unknown persons shot at Waseem Anwar, 30, when he was sitting at the stage, prepared for the event.
A bullet pierced through Waseem's neck. He was rushed to the nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The police said that the unknown assailants might have fired from outside the tent through a slit. The victim was a resident of 400 quarters, Rizvia Society, and was owner of a medical store in Nazimabad No 1.
It was around 1:15am when the incident occurred, creating panic in the ceremony, the police said, adding that when the guests recovered from the shock, they found Waseem lying in a pool of blood.
The deceased was scheduled to get married on Feb 4. He was laid to rest in the Azizabad graveyard following the funeral prayers held at the Ghousia Masjid in Nazimabad No 1. The Rizvia police lodged an FIR against unknown persons and are investigating into the case.
ACCIDENT: An employee of the Pakistan Railways died in a hit-and-run accident near Star Gate on Thursday. Police said that Fatah Mohammad, 40, was on his cycle when an unknown car knocked him down near the Star Gate. The victim was rushed to the JPMC, where he was pronounced dead.
In another accident, a woman died and her husband was wounded in an accident near the FTC, Shahrae Faisal, on Wednesday. Police said that Rasheed Bibi died on the spot, while her husband George Bhatti was wounded when an unknown vehicle knocked them down. The couple was on their motorcycle.
THEFT: An antique carpet piece was stolen from the house of the veteran artist Saeed Nagi in the PECHS on Thursday. Mr Nagi told Dawn that the carpet was on display in his gallery located in the premises of his house, located in Block 2.
He said that Ferozabad police had lodged a case against unknown persons. The veteran artist suspected that some carpet dealer might have been behind this theft.
