LAHORE, Feb 1: Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi visited Islamabad on Tuesday to discuss with the president different matters, including the local government elections.

Official sources said the local government elections would be the main item which the chief minister would discuss with the president because its outcome would lay foundations of the future politics in the country.

They said the chief minister would request the president to appoint administrators in the local bodies to ensure "fair" elections. It may be mentioned here that National Reconstruction Bureau Chief Daniyal Aziz has been opposing the appointment of administrators in the local bodies during the forthcoming elections.

In a recent statement, he had said the local government law did not provide for any such thing. Sources hoped that the president would agree to the chief minister's request and the administrators would be appointed before the beginning of the local election process. Mr Elahi is expected to return to Lahore on Thursday (tomorrow).
