PESHAWAR: Increase in fee criticized

Published January 31, 2005

PESHAWAR, Jan 30: The Islami Jamiat Tulaba has expressed concern over the recent increase in admission fee, accommodation problems and unrest among students of Islamia College and urged the University of Peshawar's vice-chancellor to solve the problems.

According to a press release, the IJT held a meeting on the campus on Sunday. It said that the increase in admission fee had left many bright students with no option but to discontinue their studies.

It regretted that the university administration had "miserably failed" to provide necessary facilities to students due to which they were resorting to frequent protests and strikes. The "unbecoming" attitude of the authorities had resulted in wastage of students' precious time, the meeting said.

Students from far-flung areas of the province were facing accommodation problems and many were considering cancelling their admission, it claimed. The authorities, instead of extending more facilities to students, were trying to deprive them of what they already enjoyed, the IJT said.
