PPP slams MMA's financial policies

Published January 27, 2005

PESHAWAR, Jan 26: Pakistan People's Party's (PPP) provincial general secretary Sikandar Hayat Sherpao has attributed the refusal by the World Bank to provide loan to the NWFP for the National Drainage Programme (NDP) to incompetence of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal government.

In a statement on Wednesday, Mr Sherpao regretted that the stoppage of the Rs231.5 million loan by the World Bank would hamper many NDP projects which would badly hit the socio-economic development in the province.

The NDP, he pointed out, had been launched with the Rs31.4 billion assistance from the World Bank. He criticized the MMA government for its 'flawed' policies which "had reversed the development process".

The PPP leader claimed that international donors were not happy with the policies of the NWFP government hence hesitation on their part to extend support to the province.
