SUKKUR, Jan 26: A meeting of chairmen of District Public Safety and Police Complaint Commissions (DPSPCC) of eight districts of the Sukkur region held at the DPO's office here on Wednesday expressed concern over the law and order situation in Jacobabad, Shikarpur and other parts of the region.

The meeting, presided over by Sukkur AIGP Tariq Saleem Lone, reviewed the law and order situation in the region. The commissions' chairmen complained of non-implementation of the Police Order, 2000, in the region.

Jacobabad safety commission chief Ghulam Rasool regretted that lawlessness in Ghauspur and Kashmore was on the rise. He alleged that outlaws were committing robberies in connivance with police.

He further alleged that despite information, police were not arresting outlaws possessing rocket launchers. Khairpur commission chairman Ghulam Abbas Bhambhro complained of non-cooperation of police. He demanded that the Hingorja police check-post should be upgraded.

Mohammad Khan Korai, chairman of the Nawabshah safety commission, told the meeting that when he raided a police station in the district and found illegal detainees in a lockup, the SHO and a police head constable fled along with the entry register.

He said later one of the illegal detainees was challaned in a fake case of selling wine. AIGP Lone directed Sukkur DIGP Ramzan Channa to initiate actions in cases forwarded by safety commissions and submit him a report in a week. He directed Mr Channa to clear all pending cases.

HESCO: Hesco on Wednesday disconnected electricity connections of district government offices for non-payment of arrears. The power connections of offices of the district nazim and the taluka nazim, waterworks, drainage system, streetlights, public health engineering and other departments were cut.

The disconnection of power connections of the public health engineering, waterworks and the drainage system has led to water shortage in the area and accumulation of sewage on main roads and in bazaars of the city.

KILLED: One person was killed and two others were injured when their motorcycle collided with a tractor-trolley on the National Highway, near the Hussain Pato village, Faiz Ganj police station jurisdiction, Khairpur, on Tuesday night.
