Kashmiris to observe black day today

Published January 26, 2005

ISLAMABAD, Jan 25: Indian Republic Day in occupied Kashmir will be observed as Black Day on Wednesday, marked by a complete strike.

A call for observing the day has been given by the All-Parties Hurriyat Conference and senior Hurriyat leader Mirwaiz Umer Farooq.

The strike is intended to urge immediate action by the international community against India's continued refusal to give Kashmiris their right to self-determination, KMS reported.

Kashmiri leaders in a meeting in Srinagar on Monday said that it was ironical that India on the one hand was observing its Republic day, while on the other it was stepping up its state terrorism in occupied Kashmir. -APP
