SIALKOT, Jan 25: The district police failed till Tuesday night to find out any clue to the murderers of seven members of a family.

Trader Abdul Ghani Jajja, his wife Hameeda Bibi, son Waqar Ahmad, daughter Rukhsana, sister-in-law Rasheeda Bibi and nephews - Imran and Kashif - were found slaughtered the other day at Mr Jajja's place at Model Town, Uggoki.

Uggoki police have registered a case against suspects on the report of the trader's close relative Naveed Akhtar, but yet to reach them. According to the FIR, the members of the trader's family were slaughtered at their house. The motive behind the incident could not be ascertained.

Sialkot SP (investigation) Ali Ahmad Sabir Kiyani visited the spot to gather facts about the incident. Investigating on various lines, the police claimed that the incident might be the result of enmity. They said the family had been slaughtered during the Eid holidays.

Deceased Abdul Ghani was stated to be a close relative of Shakir Mahmood Jajja, an additional district and sessions judge of Lahore. Meanwhile, hundreds of people, including women and children, demonstrated in Uggoki to mark their protest against the murders. They blocked traffic for an hour by placing burnt tyres on the dilapidated Sialkot-Uggoki-Sambrial Road.

The local traders have announced that they will mourn the tragedy for two days by keeping their shops and business centres closed. In Uggoki, the traders observed shutter-down strike on Tuesday.

The police handed over the bodies to the heirs after autopsy at the District Headquarters Hospital. Later, they were shifted to Bhosa Jajja-Qila Kalarwala village in Pasrur tehsil for burial. The ill-fated members of the family were laid to rest amid strict security.

TV LICENCE FEE: The Gujranwala Electric Power Company continues to charge television licence fee from seminaries despite exemption by the federal government. The company is still charging Rs25 as TV licence fee in the monthly electricity bills from seminaries.
