LAHORE: Cancer registry system soon

LAHORE, Jan 25: Punjab Health Minister Dr. Tahir Ali Javed has said that a cancer registry system pilot project will soon be launched in the city.

Speaking to the members of cancer society here on Tuesday, the minister said the system would in the long run help trace correct number of cancer patients.

The minister said more research facilities would be provided to young doctors of oncology. He said the government was providing funds for the repair and maintenance of the existing radiation machines as well as for the installation of new machines at the oncology department of the teaching hospitals in the province.

The minister said an awareness campaign would also be launched regarding breast cancer through lady health workers. He said a mammography machine had been installed at the Jinnah Hospital for diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer.
