GUJRANWALA, Jan 24: Three youths, including the son of a local journalist, were shot at by robbers near Upper Chenab canal on Monday.

Police said Kashif, son of journalist Abdulah Khalid, along with his friends Arif and Zulfiqar, was on his way to Ghakhar by his new Suzuki car.

The outlaws intercepted them near the canal and signalled them to stop but the driver tried to speed away. The robbers opened fire on the car as a result of which the boys sustained injuries while the robbers escaped.

The injured were referred to the Mayo Hospital, Lahore, where the condition of Kashif and Arif was stated to be very critical. Police have registered a case.

LIFE TERM: A court on Monday handed down life term with Rs200,000 fine for kidnap and murder of a woman, while acquitted two others by giving them the benefit of the doubt.

According to prosecution, convict Zafar Iqbal along with Mukhtar, Shaukat and Sabir kidnapped a girl from Kot Ladah, raped and killed her in April, 2004. The court acquitted Mukhtar and Shaukat, while Sabir was declared a proclaimed offender.
