GUJRANWALA, Jan 17: A drama of kidnap of a college student for Rs2 million ransom planned by himself flopped when police recovered him from a restaurant along with his friends on Monday.

Police said Ahmad, a Second Year student and son of cloth merchant Sakhawat Ali, demanded a new motorcycle and a mobile phone from his father as all his friends were enjoying both the things. The man refused to oblige his son and instead gave him Rs10 daily pocket money.

They said the dejected youth planned drama of his kidnap for ransom. He stayed at a local restaurant along with his friends and his friends called his family telling them of his kidnap and demanded Rs2 million ransom.

However, his father lodged a report with Baghbanpura police who traced the telephone number from where the calls were made and arrested the youth and his friends. Police said the youth confessed during an interrogation that he had staged the drama to get money to buy new motorcycle and mobile phone.
