HYDERABAD, Jan 17: The Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association has expressed concern over reports about changes in the academic session, saying the step will be extremely harmful for Sindh.

At an emergency meeting of the association held at the Government Muslim Science College on Monday, leaders of the SPLA said Sindh was being isolated due to inefficiency of the Sindh Text-book Board.

The meeting, which was presided over by Prof Khadim Khoso, observed that the students of Sindh would not be able to seek admission in federal educational institutions and institutions of other provinces due to the change in academic sessions. The meeting appealed to the Sindh governor, the chief minister, the chief secretary and members of the Sindh Assembly to review the unwise decision.

GSTA: The Government Secondary Teachers Association has condemned the transfer of women teachers of the Government Girls High School Qasimabad. According to a press release issued on Monday, the general body meeting of the association said if the transfer orders of the three women teachers were not cancelled, the GSTA would launch a protest movement. The meeting regretted that the transferred teachers had not been issued new posting orders as a result their Eid salaries had also been withheld.

WASA: The managing director of Wasa has said that a central control room has been established in his office. In a statement issued on Monday, the MD said the centre would remain open from 10am to 10pm during Eidul Azha holidays from Jan 20-23.

He said other emergency centres had been established in the offices of respective divisional officers. He said the relevant staff would remain vigilant at the centres in order to meet any emergency situation with regard to water supply and sewerage services. In this regard, complaints can be lodged at the complaint centres on telephone.

DIVISION: Political leaders and writers have rejected the bifurcation of the Hyderabad district and resolved to resist any such move. They were speaking at a seminar organized by the Qasimabad Action Committee on Sunday.

PPP leader Moula Bux Chandio said the proposal to bifurcate Hyderabad was a conspiracy to create bloodshed in the district. He said in the long run, this conspiracy would lead to exclusiveness instead of inclusiveness. He said the people of Sindh were not against any community but they would not accept the bifurcation of Hyderabad on political or ethnic lines.
