GUJRANWALA, Jan 10: The Anti-Corruption Establishment on Monday arrested 12 government officials, including an SHO, tehsil council secretary and three irrigation patwaris, on charges of corruption and embezzlement.

Reports said the ACE received complaints against these officials and they were found guilty after inquiries. They have been identified as SHO Rana Muhammad Islam, Pindi Bhatian tehsil council secretary Wazir Ali, irrigation patwaris Afzal, Shahbaz, Irshadullah, junior clerk of Pasrur government high school, Muhammad Ayub, licence clerk Hafizur Rehman and revenue department officials Khalid Mahmood, Muhammad Anwer, Muhammad Shafqat, Zafar Iqbal and Badar Islam.

A case has been registered against them. Meanwhile, a team, led by judicial magistrate Sheikh Ghulam Mustafa, raided a local taxi stand on Monday and arrested token fee contractor Muhammad Munawar and his men Zahid and Nazir for overcharging. Police later registered a case and sent them to jail on judicial remand.

SHOT DEAD: A councillor was shot dead over an old enmity in Maun village, Qila Dedar Singh, on Monday. Rana Arif was on his way home when accused Anwar, Mushtaq, etc opened fire on him. They escaped after killing him on the spot. Police have registered a case.
