ISLAMABAD, Jan 6: Senator Enver Baig has claimed that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shaharyar M. Khan was deliberately delaying the constitution of the board.

"Sharharyar Khan first told Senate's Standing Committee on Sports that he will submit the draft on Aug 31.

He then said he will submit the draft on Oct 31 and now he has sent a fax dated Dec 27 in which he has said he will submit the draft of the constitution on April 30.

"It's deliberate dilly-dally and I am telling you he will not submit the constitution draft even on April 30," Enver Baig told a private television channel in an interview that will be aired on Friday at 10:10pm with extracts available on Thursday.

A vocal Enver Baig said on the contract of Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer: "Why shouldn't the people of Pakistan know what the PCB is paying Bob Woolmer. By saying that they (PCB) cannot reveal financial details because of tax problems, is the PCB trying to save Bob Woolmer's from paying tax in this country or in his country?"

When asked he was deliberately trying to malign the reputation of Shaharyar Khan, a career-diplomat, Enver said Mr. Khan might be a brilliant diplomat but his performance as chairman of the cricket board was pathetic.

"I don't know Shaharyar M. Khan nor I am interested in the PCB. I am a supporter of Pakistan cricket and want to see the team thrive." Mr. Khan, defending himself, said he was prepared to make the accounts of Indian series public.

"We have got nothing to hide. We will soon release all the documents and will also put them on internet," he told the television. His interview will be aired on Saturday at 10.10pm with transcript available on Thursday.

PCB chief admitted that the tickets for the Indian series were computer generated but stressed that all the tickets were accounted for. "We will submit all the details to the Senate's Standing Committee on Sports."

Replying to another question, the PCB chairman said the mandate of Senate's Standing Committee on Sports was not to investigate the affairs of PCB. "Their mandate was to probe the reasons for Pakistan's defeat against India as initially it was thought that there was something fishy. But now they are convinced that Pakistan lost only because of cricketing reasons." -APP
