FAISALABAD, Jan 6: Governor Khalid Maqbool has announced that every public university of the province will provide stipends to its 100 deserving students from the Punjab Baitul Mal funds so that they could complete their education without any financial burden on their families.

Speaking to the participants of mass-marriage ceremony held here at Iqbal Stadium on Thursday, he said the government was committed to provide basic amenities to the people at their door step and trying its utmost for the elimination of social ills.

Talking of mass marriages, he said this tradition had brought the poor and the elite class on one platform and wealthy people were arranging marriage of poor girls. He said the 43 couples out of 200 who had been married in Faisalabad indicated that the minorities were being given their due share in all policies.

He appreciated the local philanthropists for providing Rs12.5 million for these marriages. Earlier, district Nazim Zahid Nazir in his address of welcome appreciated the role of the local businessmen for arranging the marriages.

Later, the governor visited the DHQ Hospital and inspected its Liver Centre and Coronary Care Unit. He expressed his satisfaction over the performance of the hospital management.

Speaking to the participants after inaugurating a new block of the Cardiac Care Unit in the hospital here on Thursday, he lauded the contribution of philanthropists in the health sector.

He particularly thanked Pakistan Textile Exporters Association chief Mian Fiaq Jawed, adding that exporters instead of depending on the government had set an example by providing angiography and heart by-pass surgery equipment to this CCU.

He said the government would not only acknowledge the contribution of the exporters but also play its role by providing necessary technical staff to the unit. The governor appreciated the services rendered by CCU Incharge Dr. Javed Iqbal.
