KARACHI, Jan 5: Journalists staged a sit-in on Wednesday near the main offices of the Jang Group of Publications as part of their campaign for implementation of the Seventh Wage Board Award.

A number of politicians, including two provincial ministers, visited the journalists to express solidarity.

The ministers, Rauf Siddiqui and Syed Shoaib Bukhari, urged newspaper owners to implement the award at the earliest. Politicians belonging to the Pakistan People's Party, Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal and Pakistan Muslim League (N) joined the demonstration.

Representatives of some labour unions also expressed their support for the journalists' struggle. On the occasion, the president of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists, Ahfazur Rahman, pointed out that newspaper employees were working on salaries fixed several years ago because the award was yet to be implemented.
