LAHORE, Jan 4: A case was registered against four policemen on Tuesday on the orders of SP (administration) for taking bribe and keeping a citizen in illegal detention.

Bilal Shaukat in his complaint stated that he was to marry on Jan 1. On Dec 31, he said, he left the house of his in-laws in Nishtar Colony after attending a function when three policemen held him.

Identified as Sub-Inspector Muhammad Shafiq and constables Akbar and Nasir, they took him to the police station. They produced him before their incharge Sub-Inspector Zulfiqar Ahmad and tortured him.

Mr Shaukat's family approached the police station, and also senior police officers but his detention was not owned by the police. Later, the victim was set free on assurance that he would not disclose the incident to the police high-ups. The policemen also snatched Rs5,000 from him.

The SP (administration) was ordered to probe the incident, who found the policemen guilty of the charges. The police claimed to have raided several places for the arrest of the accused policemen, but to no avail.
