MIRPURKHAS, Jan 3: The DCO has directed the EDO, health, to furnish a list of vacant posts of doctors and other staff in the city Civil Hospital and basic health unit, Khadim Ali Shah village, so that approval can be accorded for filling the posts.

DCO Mohammad Siddiq Memon issued the directive at a meeting with the health department officials. He also asked the EDO to furnish a list of vehicles including ambulances that required repairs.

The DCO called for ensuring supply of medicines to hospitals and making the procedure of purchasing medicines transparent. He asked the officers to purchase medicines after consulting with doctors concerned in the Civil Hospital.

He also directed the officers to hold seminars and workshops for making people aware on health issues and training program for doctors and paramedical staff and added that the district government would provide funds for this purpose.

On the occasion, EDO Dr Hadi Bux Leghari spoke of problems being faced by the health department. The DCO was also given a briefing on the Expanded Program of Immunization and other programmes.

POLIO: Speaking at a meeting on polio eradication campaign, the DCO said that the campaign in the district should be made successful for saving children from the disease and each child under five years of age must be vaccinated.

He said that besides the health department, other government and semi-government departments and masses should play their role in this regard. The EDO said that despite efforts, out of 44 cases of polio reported from different parts of Sindh, six had been reported from Umerkot.

He added that 31 of the cases had not been confirmed while seven were under investigation. He said that last year, 103 cases of polio had been reported from Sindh and the figures showed that the campaign had not been successful.
