GUJRANWALA, Dec 30: The public transport situation 'worsened' in the city and suburbs as the police continued impounding vehicles on Thursday.

Reports said the Regional Transport Authority and traffic police impounded vehicles from the general bus stand and other points, besides Ghakkhar, Wazirabad, Naushera Virkan, Kamoki, Alipur Chattha, Qila Dedar Singh, Daska and later handed over to parliamentarians and UC Nazims to carry workers to Gujrat to welcome General Pervez Musharraf.

As a result the passengers, including women and children, suffered and were seen standing at bus stops till late Wednesday night. However, many of them reached their destinations by trucks, carts and motorcycle-rickshaws after paying high fare. When contacted, the RTA and traffic police staff said vehicles were being impounded on the orders of higher authorities.
