SIALKOT, Dec 30: The district administration has impounded several vehicles to carry the ruling party workers to Gujrat to welcome General Pervez Musharraf on Jan 1 (tomorrow).
A large number of people, including factory workers, women and children, had to face a great deal of inconvenience at bus and wagon stands in Sialkot, Daska, Bhopalwala, Sambrial, Uggoki, Satrah, Pasrur, Badiana, Chawinda and surrounding areas due to the non-availability of transport.
Meanwhile, motorcycle-rickshaws, tractor-trollies and truck drivers used to charge Rs40 to 50 per passenger. On this occasion, the people chanted slogans against the government and the district administration.
When contacted, official sources confirmed that the situation would persist till Sunday (Jan 2). Meanwhile, many transporters stopped plying their vehicles in a bid to avert the impounding.
GIRLS COLLEGE: The federal government has approved early establishment of a government girls intermediate college at Bhopalwala and the construction work to this effect will be started in February with a total cost of Rs25 million.
This was stated by state minister for investment & privatization Umer Ahmad Ghuman while addressing a public meeting at Bhopalwala-Daska on Thursday. He said the government was making allout efforts to bring about educational revolution. The state minister also announced Rs5.8 million for the early construction of a small bridge over Nullah Aik near Bhopalwala.
THREE KILLED: Three people were killed in separate incidents in the district on Thursday. In Model Town, Uggoki, milkman Muhammad Afzal (30) was shot dead by two unidentified dacoits on offering resistance.
In Rohailla-Begowala, an unidentified old man was found murdered. Trader Mushtaq Ahmad was shot dead by four men in Mohallah Kashmirian-Naikapura. Police have registered separate cases.
