PESHAWAR: Smuggled goods seized

PESHAWAR, Dec 29: Customs authorities here on Wednesday seized two containers loaded with foreign goods which were meant for Allied forces in Afghanistan, officials said.

A press release issued here said that the Customs intelligence had received information that foreign goods for the use of the US-led Allied forces in Afghanistan loaded on a trailer would be unloaded in a godown situated at an automobile engineering workshop in Karkhano market, adjacent to the Khyber Agency.

The authorities raided the compound and the trailer loaded with two containers was found parked within the premises of the automobile workshop. During search a huge quantity of foreign goods was found stocked.

The press release said that the owner of the godown could not produce any documentary proof regarding legal import/lawful possession of the said goods. The authorities took the trailer into custody under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1969 and the owner and driver were arrested.
