LAHORE, Dec 27: The Punjab government is creating a Green Fund in the planning and development department for advancing interest-free loans for conversion of two-stroke rickshaws to four stroke and diesel buses to CNG.

Punjab Transport Secretary Agha Nadeem disclosed this while addressing a meeting of the field officers of his department at the Transport House here on Monday. He said the provincial government had decided to impose a ban on issue of route permits and manufacture of two-stroke rickshaws from Jan 1 in compliance with the directions of the federal government.

He said the planning and development, transport, finance, environment and other departments had been given the task of facilitating the conversion of public transport into the CNG for combatting environmental pollution.

Only CNG buses were to be given route permits in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan and Faisalabad under the government policy. Incentives would also be offered to the transporters for the conversion during the next three years. He called upon the transporters and manufacturers to cooperate with the government in this regard.

CO-OP ACT: The draft of amendments to Cooperative Housing Societies Act 1925 has been finalized and would be presented for legislation in the next provincial assembly session.

This was stated by Punjab Cooperatives Minister Col Malik Muhammad Anwar (retired) after presiding over a departmental meeting here on Monday. The minister said the law was being amended to protect the investment of the people in cooperative housing schemes and preventing the managements from indulging in mal practices.

He said that cooperative housing societies would be responsible for provision of all the basic civic amenities in their housing schemes under the new law. Societies would also be bound to build low-cost houses and flats for sale to the limited income groups at reasonable prices.
