RAMALLAH, Dec 22: Candidates in 26 municipalities and localities in the West Bank wrapped up campaigning on Wednesday on the eve of the first Palestinian council elections since 1976.

The elections on Thursday will see participation from Hamas, which boycotted the first Palestinian general elections in 1996 and also excluded itself from upcoming presidential elections on January 9.

More than 140,000 electors will choose from 886 candidates, including 139 women, as they select local council officials for the town of Jericho and 25 villages in the West Bank. -AFP
