GUJRANWALA, Dec 20: Traffic remained suspended for some half an hour on the GT Road due to a clash between a marriage party participants and the hall management over aerial firing here on Monday.
At least 17 people of both the parties sustained injuries in the clash. Some friends of bridegroom Muhammad Tariq of Garap Garah Cantonment under the influence started dancing and resorted to aerial firing when the wedding party reached the marriage hall.
The hall management and elderly participants of the marriage procession snubbed them. The drunkards also repeated the act after the nikah ceremony. At this, the hall administration called out their security guards and thrashed the drunkards and their supporters.
The participants became infuriated and attacked the security guards when the hall management held the bridegroom hostage. Later in a free for all fight, some 17 people of both the sides sustained injuries. They were rushed to nearby private hospitals.
In the meanwhile, the hall administration informed the police who rushed to the spot, held the bridegroom and locked him at the Sabzi Mandi police station. However, after sometime he was released on the assurance given by elders of both the parties.
PATROL POSTS: The establishment of 500 patrol posts on important roads in the province will help eliminate crimes. This was stated by provincial Food Minister Chaudhry Muhammad Iqbal while speaking at a meeting here on Monday.
He said the policemen were being provided transport, modern equipment and arms to check the crime, but their performance fell short of public expectations. The government, he said, wanted to change 'thana' culture and was spending huge amount for the protection of lives, property and honour of the people. DPO Arif Mushtaq and other senior officers were also present on the occasion.
LOOTED: Armed bandits looted a bakery and a house in two strikes in and around the city on Monday. Four outlaws entered the bakery of Malik Ijaz in Rahwali. They held hostage the owner at pistol point, snatched prize bonds, a mobile phone, a TV set, Rs80,000 in cash and escaped.
Around 15 bandits sneaked into the house of landlord Sharif in Ladhewala Warraich village. They held up the inmates at gunpoint, collected Rs20,000 in cash and other valuables and fled with the booty.
