MULTAN, Dec 20: The direct dialling code for Multan district will change from 061 to 61 on Tuesday (today), says a Pakistan Telecommunication (PTCL) press release issued on Monday.

However, both old and new codes would remain operational for three months to avoid inconvenience to the subscribers, it said. Meanwhile, the PTCL has also upgraded its exchanges and changed prefixes of various exchanges.

It has added prefix '4' to the old numbers starting from digits 54, 51, 55, 570, 577, 78, 745 and 746, and a prefix of '6' to old numbers starting from digits 52, 24, 536, 539, 77, 750, 752, 760, 762, and 532.

The prefix of '4' would also transform the old numbers of some 23 telephone exchanges into new numbers. They included 18-Kassi, Bosan, Shershah, Bahadurpur, Ayazabad Maral, Lar, Shujabad, Sikandarabad, Basti Malook, Ghazipur, Jalalpur Pirwala, Khan Bela, Zareef Shaheed, Bagreen, Budhla Sant, Gulzarpur, Khokhraan, Qadirpur Raan, Tataypur, Chak 11-MR/Pul-18, Kot Abbas Shaheed, Khanpur Maral and Matotali. However, the change in prefixes for 58, 56, 22 and 23 would be announced later. -APP
