ISLAMABAD, May 27: A civil judge was injured on Monday after a hand grenade, that he was examining as “case property”, went off in his hand, police and witnesses said.

According to the police, the incident took place in the court of Civil Judge Jehangir Mir when Head Constable Zubair was recording his statement as a witness in a grenades seizure case against accused Khalidur Rehman.

As the judge took the grenade in his hand to examine it, the device exploded, causing injuries to him. He was shifted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences where he was said to be out of danger.

The incident spread panic in the district court premises. Upon hearing the explosion, the policemen present outside the court, rushed to the scene and evacuated the court room. An investigation has been ordered into the incident, a spokesman for the police said.—Staff Reporter
