TOBA TEK SINGH, Dec 15: An Army personnel was arrested on Wednesday by the Saddar police for smuggling counterfeit currency and recovered millions of rupees worth currency from his possession.

According to the DPO office, accused Suhail Akram, resident of Chak 377 JB, was posted in the NWFP where he developed relations with smugglers gang and started supplying counterfeit currency to the Punjab.

On a tip off police raided and arrested the accused along with counterfeit currency. Police were raiding for the arrest of his accomplices in other cities of the province.

NAIB NAZIM: Mujahid Husain Saqlain became Naib Nazim of union council 54, Toba city 1, winning the election on Wednesday. The office fell vacant when Naib Nazim Zubair Sharif tendered resignation and joined a private bank.

Mr Saqlain defeated PPP's Basharat Ali. He secured 1,509 votes against Mr Ali's 369 votes. Meanwhile, District Bar Association secretary Iftikhar Sidhu, a supporter of the PPP candidate, alleged rigging by the district Nazim's men.

Police broke the camera of a TV channel reporter, Rana Khalid Mahmood, when he was filming the supporters of Mr Saqlain casting fake votes. District Press Club president Mian Manzoor Ahmad Naz condemned the police action. He alleged that the film was snatched by the policemen. Later, a delegation of journalists met DPO Saad Bharwana who assured them of action against the policemen after an inquiry.
