KARACHI, Dec 14: The Secretary General of the Jamaat-i-Islami, Syed Munawwar Hasan, on Tuesday warned the government that if the decision regarding establishment of Aga Khan University Board was not withdrawn , religious parties' alliance would be compelled to launch a movement against the Aga Khan community on the pattern of the movement launched against Qadiyanis.

"We warn the government to take back its ordinance regarding the establishment of the AKUB otherwise the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal will launch a movement against the Aga Khan community like the one launched against Qadyanis in the past," he told a news conference at the Karachi Press Club.

He feared the AKUB would close the doors of education on the poor people besides secularizing education in the country. "Quranic verses are being removed from the curricula on the directives of the US and all such forces that allege that the Quran urges Muslims to wage war against other religious groups," he said.

Mr Hasan warned the Aga Khan Foundation that if it failed to give up the US agenda, none of its component organizations would be allowed to operate in the country. Backing the Islami Jamiat Talaba, he said, "The AKUB is trying to hijack Pakistan's educational system and the IJT has taken a timely decision to initiate a movement against it," he maintained.

According to the referendum's results, from about 0.9 million people contacted, around 98.5 per cent cast their vote against the AKUB, 0.2 per cent were in favour, and some 1.3 per cent people remained did not express any opinion. - PPI
