HYDERABAD, Dec 6: The Islamic University of Uganda and the University of Sindh on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding to launch academic exchange programmes in various disciplines. The MoU was signed at a ceremony held at the University of Sindh's Jamshoro campus.

In the light of the MOU, the universities will undertake joint research projects in mutually-agreed fields with the aim of addressing scientific issues of local, regional and international significance.

The universities will organize training workshops and national and international symposia, seminars and conferences on different subjects. The institutes will also exchange faculty members, research fellows and scholars to undertake teaching and research in fields beneficial to their respective countries.

Welcoming the rector of the Islamic University, Dr Ahmad Kamal K. Sengendo, University of Sindh Vice Chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui gave details about teaching and academic activities in his university.

He said more then 16,000 students were enrolled in six faculties of the university. Dr Sengendo said the Islamic University had been established in 1974 and presently, 2,000 students were enrolled in its five faculties.

He said the university was looking for assistance in different programmes, especially training of teachers in professional degree programmes. Deans of faculties, registrar and the director of the Centre of Excellence in Analytical Chemistry were also present on the occasion.
