LAHORE: LHC summons SHO on 15th

Published December 7, 2004

LAHORE, Dec 6: The Lahore High Court on Monday summoned the Kathiala Sheikhan police station SHO to explain on Dec 15 his conduct of registering the FIR. The court summoned the SHO to appear in person to submit a report under what legal authority he had registered an FIR of his own choice.

The order was issued on a writ petition by Zafar Iqbal of Faisalabad district who alleged that the police official did not perform his duty according to the law and registered the FIR under his own whims.

The petitioner contended that he and members of his family were injured in an attack with axes by a group of people enjoying the backing of an influential politician of the area.

When he reached the police station to register an FIR against the assailants, the SHO refused to do so. But he registered an FIR against him and other members of his family when approached by the rival party.
