SUKKUR, Dec 2: The Pano Aqil police on Thursday morning arrested two of the six people who had allegedly tried to rape a married woman in the Salhani village on Wednesday.

The accused are alleged to have barged into the house of Wahid Bux Qazi in the village and, after overpowering family members at gunpoint, dragged the woman out of the house and took to an Autaq (guest room). They had also torn the woman's clothes.

They tried to to rape the woman in the Autaq and tortured her when she screamed for help. The woman fell unconscious. The accused escaped when the woman's mother arrived at the Autaq and appealed to them to let her daughter go.

Later, Hafiz Wazir, a bother of the woman, lodged an FIR under sections 18 and 354 of the Zina Hudood Ordinance against the accused, Shabbir, Ali Ahmad, Jamal, Zameer, Najam and Ali Gohar, at the Pano Aqil cantonment police station

Police have arrested Jamal and Zameer. Mr Wazir told police that Jamal and his accomplices had kidnapped his wife two months ago and remarried her to one Janoo.

He said he had appealed to the accused to resolve the matter but they alleged that his younger brother, Ghulam Rasool, 15, had illicit relations with their "70-year-old" relative. He said this dispute was the reason for the rape attempt on his sister.
