Published November 23, 2004

LANDI KOTAL, Nov 22: Senator from Khyber Agency Hafiz Abdul Malik has expressed his dissatisfaction over the lack of medical facilities at the Agency Headquarters hospital here.

During a surprise visit of the AHQ hospital on Monday, the patients and their attendants complained to the senator that they were not given proper medical cover by the hospital staff nor were they provided quality medicines from the hospital medicine store.

They also complained that majority of the hospital staff were not attending their duties while some doctors were running their private clinics inside the hospital premises.

Senator Malik also inspected the newly provided equipment to the hospital and expressed his displeasure over the quality of some machines. It also transpired during the senator's visit that a number of machines were lying useless in the hospital store.

While checking the hospital purchase records, it was found that some machines were purchased at prices much higher than the market prices. The senator also visited the operation theatre and dental unit of the hospital and expressed his dissatisfaction over the unhygienic condition there.

Most of the patients and even some of the hospital staff complained about water scarcity in the hospital. Water scarcity has also resulted in choking of rest rooms in various wards.

A number of female visitors to the hospital complained about the absence of a proper waiting room for female patients, and thus they were compelled to wait for their turn in the open.
