GUJRANWALA, Nov 19: Advocate Chaudhry Muhammad Younis Mehr, the provincial president of the Asif Ali Zardari Freedom Movement, survived attempt on life while his body guard and three other people were injured in an assault at his house in Maraliwala village on Friday.

The assailants also targeted the ambulance, which was taking the injured to the hospital doing no further damage. Information reaching here revealed that Chaudhry Younis was at his residence when his political rivals, Muhammad Naseer Gujjar, Abdul Rashid Gujjar, Muhammad Ayub and Muhammad Ismail, besides others, entered his house.

They opened an indiscriminate fire at his drawing room as a result of which his guard Muhammad Tanvir and three supporters - Muhammad Ashfaq, Muhammad Anwar and Ghulam Ahmad - suffered injuries.

They were taken to the District Headquarters Hospital by an ambulance, which also was targeted by the assailants. Several passers by and shopkeepers of the area had a close shave.

However, Tetley police have registered a case against the suspects against whom investigation is under way. Meanwhile, PPP Divisional President Chaudhry Imtiaz Safdar Warraich and PPP District President Chaudhry Abdullah Virk condemned the attack on the PPP leader and demanded that all suspects be arrested immediately.

TWO DIE: Two youths died after consuming poisonous liquor here at Veroki village in Wazirabad on Friday. According to reports, Anjum Abbas and Falaksher joined their friends at a outhouse near the village. All the friends took liquor after which the invitees disappeared. Anjum and Falaksher breathed their last after some time.
