KARACHI, Nov 12: Four persons, including an eight-year-old boy, fell victim to reckless driving on Friday in different areas of the city and police failed to arrest any of the errant drivers.
Imran Masih, 20, was on his motorcycle (KAB-9306) when he was hit and wounded by a speeding Metro Bus near Safari Park. The injured was rushed to a nearby private hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police said that the Metro Bus managed to escape after knocking down the motorcyclist. Imran was a resident of Ayub Goth in Christian Colony, police added. In Malir City, a young boy died and his cousin was injured when a speeding minibus knocked them down.
Police said that Shahid, 16, was going with his cousin Nisar, 30, on a motorcycle when a speeding minibus of route (D-7) knocked them down. Both the victims were rushed to the nearby hospital from where they were referred to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.
Shahid died during treatment at the JPMC. In Korangi, Abdul Hameed, 8, was playing near his house when a speeding vehicle knocked him down. The boy died on the spot. Police said that his body was shifted to the JPMC for legal formalities.
In Kharadar, a speeding vehicle knocked down a 65-year-old pedestrian near Mere weather Tower. According to the police, the elderly victim was crossing the road near he was hit by a speeding vehicle. The wounded man was rushed to the Civil Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
KILLED: A middle-aged man was killed by unknown persons in Bin Qasim area early on Friday morning. Police said that two factory workers Mohammad Umar and Ghulam Mohammad Aryan were returning home from Fauji Fertilizers when some bandits intercepted them at Ghaghar Phatak. As Umar tried to resist, the suspects shot at him and fled. Police said that Umar died on way to the hospital.
FIRE: A fire broke out in garments godowns located near KMC Workshop near Old Haji Camp on Friday evening. Chief fire officer Kazim Ali told Dawn that the fire had broken out around 6pm in a godown, where winter clothes were stocked. Three godowns were destroyed in the fire.
He said that 11 fire tenders reached the spot to control the fire which was brought under control by 10pm. There were dozens of similar godowns located in the same vicinity, if fire had spread to these godowns, damage would have been enormous, he added. The cause and extent of damage could not be ascertained, a spokesman for the fire department said.
