LAHORE, Oct 15: Jamaat-i-Islami Secretary General Syed Munawwar Hasan says that by proposing demilitarization of Kashmir region without a plebiscite, President Pervez Musharraf has insulted the freedom movement which is condemnable.

In a statement here on Friday, he said the rulers had failed on the national and international fronts. Similarly, he said the way the bill authorizing the president to retain his military post had been rushed through the National Assembly manifested how insecure the rulers and the ruling party felt themselves without the uniform.

Those purportedly enjoying support of 96 per cent of the electorate did not have to depend upon military uniform nor their security budgets swelled to Rs 2,500 million, the JI leader said in an obvious reference to President Musharraf's claims and practical steps.

He was appreciative of the Chinese government's announcement that Sino-Pakistan relations would remain unaffected despite the death of a hostage during the rescue operation. This showed the greatness of China, the JI leader said.
