PESHAWAR, Oct 15: A student was hospitalized after being severely beaten up by a teacher at the Government Higher Secondary School, Hathian, Mardan, on Friday. Shadman Khan, a student of class eight was admitted to the rural health centre in Skha Kot.

The teacher reportedly got infuriated over a petty matter during the school assembly, got hold of the student, dragged him and beat up him up with a stick. He also kicked him. The boy fell unconscious after he suffered injuries in sensitive parts.

The victim's father, Nasarullah Khan, talking to newsmen, appealed to the authorities concerned to take notice of the incident.

A non-government organization said the provincial education and literacy department had on Sept 7 issued a circular to all schools in the province and warned teachers that giving corporal punishment to students was a crime. It said teachers who gave such punishments could be removed from service under the Special Powers Ordinance, 2000.
