HYDERABAD, Oct 6: A large number of residents of Khesana Mori held a protest demonstration outside the press club here on Wednesday against retrenchment of 64 local employees of the Kunar OGDC plant.

Under the banner of the Kunar Development Organization, the protesters also observed a token hunger strike. Speaking on the occasion, the president of the organization, Imdad Ali Kaleri, a councillor of the area, Mohib Ali Mari, Abdullah Khatti, Ghulam Mustafa and others lashed out at the Kunar plant manager for sacking the employees.

They regretted that the manager was recruiting outsiders. They said the plant also did not contribute in development of the area. They warned that area people would stage a sit-in at the gate of the plant if the sacked workers were not reinstated in 24 hours.

They demanded that 80 per cent jobs in the plant should be provided to local people. Later, the villagers held a demonstration outside the office of the district nazim.

Nazim Dr Makhdoom Rafiquzzaman assured representatives of the protesters, who called on him, that he would take up the issue with the OGDCL authorities. The protesters also held a demonstration outside the regional office of the OGDCL.

SPSF-SB: Students of the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, belonging to the Sindh People's Students Federation-SB, here on Wednesday held a protest demonstration outside the press club against registration of what they called a false case against federation president Ali Gohar Chandio by the Qambar police.

Speaking on the occasion, Mohammad Ramzan, Aftab Langah, Muzaffar Memon and other student leaders demanded withdrawal of the case against Mr Chandio.

CATTLE SHOW: The director, animal husbandry, Hyderabad, Dr Mohammad Essa Memon, has advised livestock owners to train their animals for the National Horse and Cattle Show Lahore 2005, scheduled to begin in the first week of March. He asked them to contact veterinary officers in their respective districts so that their animals could be examined by the selection committee.

OFFICE SHIFTED: The office of the additional sub-registrar, Hyderabad, has been shifted to a building adjacent to the office of the SP, special branch, near Rani Bagh. This was notified by the inspector general of registration, Hyderabad, on Wednesday.
