KARACHI, Oct 3: Sindh Minister for Inter-provincial Coordination Dr Sohrab Khan Sarki has said that special counters for senior citizens would be set up at airports, railway stations, banks and such other places.

He was speaking as chief guest at a function organized by the Aga Khan Social Welfare Board for Pakistan in collaboration with Pakistan Senior Citizens' Association to mark the International Day of Older Persons here on Saturday.

The minister impressed upon the youth and young generation to accord due respect and attention to elders. "It is our elders who always offered sacrifices and provided us with guidance. Now it is time we pay back," he said.

Dr Sarki recalled that our elders had played an active and pivotal role in the Pakistan Movement, which eventually led to the creation of our homeland, under the able leadership of Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah.

In this context, he also acknowledged the role played by Aga Khan-III. The minister pointed out that the federal government had been taking certain steps to provide maximum facilities and support to senior citizens at public places.

Among those spoke on the occasion included City Nazim Naimatullah Khan, Sultan Ali Allana, Dr Fatima Mohabat Ali and Commander Zaki. The speakers highlighted the problems being faced by senior citizens in Pakistan and suggested ways and means to provide them relief. -APP
