PESHAWAR, Sept 30: The Peshawar High Court on Thursday allowed a former PML-N lawmaker Jawed Ibraheem Paracha to conduct medical treatment of a Palestinian, Yousaf bin Yousaf, through a doctor he had recommended in the Peshawar central prison.

A two-member bench, comprising Justice Tariq Pervez and Justice Qazi Ahsanullah Qureshi, accepted an application filed by Mr Paracha requesting the bench to allow medical treatment of Mr Yousaf by Dr Luqman Bangash, the senior medical officer at Kohat Development Authority Hospital.

The bench directed that a medical team headed by Dr Luqman Bangash should conduct medical check-up of Mr Yousaf inside the prison in the presence of the prison's superintendent.

The bench took up for hearing a contempt of court petition filed by Mr Paracha against detention of six foreigners. In the same petition Mr Paracha had filed the present application requesting for medical treatment of Mr Yousaf, who is recently shifted to Peshawar from Adiala prison.

Advocate Qazi Muhammad Anwer appeared for the petitioner whereas deputy attorney general Hamid Farooq Durrani represented the federal government. Qazi Anwer informed the bench that Yousaf Bin Yousaf was 80 and had been suffering from various ailments.

He added that due to old age his health condition was not good. Mr Durrani explained the cases of the detainees. About one of the detainees, Havaldar Kibriya, who was initially stated to be a national of Bangladesh, Advocate Qazi Anwer contended that he possessed a Pakistani identity card.

The bench directed the interior division to verify the identity card of Mr Kibriya and inform the court whether he was a Pakistani national or not. About two Tanzanians, Musa Muhammad and Talha Yalghan, the bench was informed that the honorary consulate of Tanzania in Karachi was contacted by the foreign office and was requested to prepare travel documents of the two detainees so that they could be deported.
