HYDERABAD: Call for repeal of IRO-2002

HYDERABAD, Sept 27: The Sindh committee of the Pakistan Workers' Confederation, at a meeting held here at the Wapda Labour Hall on Monday, demanded that the Industrial Relations Ordinance 2002, Compulsory Retirement Ordinance 2000 and section 27-B of the Banking Ordinance be repealed.

In another resolution, it demanded that the ban on trade unions in banks, railways and other organisations be lifted, effective steps be taken to eliminate price hike and unemployment, the closed factories be made functional and the minimum monthly wages in the private sector organizations be fixed at Rs5000.

In yet another resolution, the meeting demanded that the problems of the employees of the local bodies, sugar mills and Zeal Pak Cement Factory should be resolved and their dues paid without delay.

The delegates of the Sindh committee of the PWC adjourned the elections of the committee to November 28 and decided that 40 delegates each from a labour federation would elect the Sindh committee.

It was further decided that Sindh would have a strong representation at the National Labour Conference scheduled to be held in Islamabad on October 16. The meeting, presided over by Jafar Khan, offered Fateha on the demise of the husband of the PWC Sindh committee president, Kaneez Fatima.

Delegates of the All Pakistan Federation of Trade Unions, Muttahida Labour Federation, Watan Dost Mazdoor Federation, Pakistan Trade Unions' Federation, Pakistan National Federation of Trade Unions, Federal Organization of Bank Employees, All Pakistan Trade Unions' Federation, Pakistan Federation of Labour and National Trade Unions' Federation attended the meeting.

Those who spoke on the occasion included Nabi Ahmed, Abdul Latif Nizamani, Abdul Aziz Abbasi, Farid Awan and Iqbal Kaimkhani.
