KARACHI, Sept 26: Driver of a Suzuki pickup was killed and his companion was injured when they tried to dodge some armed men intending to rob them in Sachal police limits on Saturday night.

Police said that a couple of customers hired the pick up at the New Sabzi Mandi and asked the driver, Zafar Din, to lead them to Ayub Goth for lifting the load. They then told the driver to drive towards Ahsanabad to lift more cargo.

While the vehicle was on its way to Ahsanabad, a gang of armed men emerged from the bushes alongside the road and tried to stop the vehicle. Sensing danger, Zafar Din tried to speed away but the armed men opened fire at the vehicle, killing him on the spot.

Charagh Din, cleaner of the vehicle, sustained injuries in the shooting. Police on Sunday morning found Zafar's body dumped in the bushes. They said that the armed men, who had taken along the injured cleaner, left Charagh Din at a distance from the scene of the incident. The armed men took away the Suzuki pickup (JX-9048), police said.

ACCIDENT: Enraged people set ablaze truck when it hit a scooter and killed one of its riders near ICI bridge on Sunday. Police said that Faizan, 18, and his friend, Shahzeb, riding the scooter were hit by the speeding truck (LSN-9259). Both sustained injuries and were rushed to Civil Hospital where Faizan was pronounced dead.

CRUSHED: A woman was crushed under the wheels of a train near Landhi station. Police said that the victim, Ms Jamila, was crossing over the tracks when she was hit by the train.
