FAISALABAD, Sept 24: Two brothers will be hanged in the local District Jail on Oct 6 after the rejection of their mercy petition by the president.

Riaz and Ghulam Rasool of Chak 60-GB, Jaranwala, were awarded death sentence by the additional district and sessions judge in 1995 for their involvement in the killing of a villager.

In 2001, the Lahore High Court upheld the decision of the lower court. Their mercy petition was also rejected by the president. After the rejection of their mercy petition, the district and sessions judge issued warrants.

DIES IN JAIL: A condemned prisoner died in the local Central Jail on Thursday night. Reports said Abdul Ghafoor was convicted in a murder case. On Thursday night, the jail staff took his body to hospital claiming that he had died of a cardiac arrest. His relatives received the body from the jail staff under protest, and demanded a probe into the matter.

MURDER: A villager axed his wife to death on suspicion in Chak 444-GB, Samundari, on Friday. Sadiq attacked his wife, Azra Parveen, when she was sitting along with other family members. The woman sustained serious injuries and died on way to hospital.
