KARACHI, Sept 23: The PML-N, Sindh chapter, has decided to fully participate in the upcoming local government elections and also to prepare for the next general elections expected to be held in 2005.

The decision was taken by the executive committee of PML-N Sindh which met here on Wednesday with its Acting President Imdad Chandio in the chair. Informed sources said that the meeting, attended among others by the party's Additional Secretary General Ahsan Iqbal and Information Secretary Siddiq-ul Farooq, also deliberated upon the matters relating to the reorganization of the party in the wake of Mr Chandio's resignation.

Reviewing the overall situation in the country, the meeting noted that the party should streamline itself for the local and general elections by reorganizing its district level leadership.

Earlier, the party's central leaders, who came here to sort out the crisis arising out of Mr Chandio's resignation, heard the point of view of the committee members as well as the office-bearers of the provincial set up.

The provincial Secretary General Mamnoon Hussain and Chief Organiser Mian Ejaz Shafi presented their points of view separately and submitted their reports to be forwarded to the PML-N's high command in Islamabad and Saudi Arabia.

According to insiders, Mr Chandio's resignation was not prompted by differences but due to some confusion over the role of the organizing committee which started working simultaneously with the existing set-ups and an executive committee.

Mian Ejaz Shafi, who holds the office of central vice-president in addition to the provincial chief organizer, clarified that the aim of the organizing committee was to mobilize the party for which it would suggest ways and means.
