LAHORE, Sept 23: Robbers shot dead a woman and wounded a man on Thursday and made off with cash, jewellery, valuables and vehicles in various parts of the city.

Hanif of Samanabad told police that his family had been attending a marriage ceremony in Sabzazar for three days.

He said his wife Shahida Begum, 42, stayed back home during this period. He visited the house on Thursday morning and found it locked from outside. Considering his wife might have left the house to visit someone in neighbourhood, he returned to the Sabzazar house.

His son, Usman, visited the house again in the evening, found it locked and broke into the house. He found his mother lying dead in a pool of blood. She had been shot in the head. Cash, jewellery and all electronics were found missing from the house, Usman told the police.

Two gunmen held up a vegetable market trader at Muhammadi Market in Misri Shah. He put up resistance and the gangsters opened fire on him. He got critical injuries and the robbers snatched Rs170,000 from him. He was rushed to hospital where his condition was stated to be precarious.

Ms Tayyaba told the police that she along with her children lived at Rehman Cottage in Jauhar Town while her husband had gone to the US. She said a gun-toting man stormed into her house and held her and the children hostage. The intruder collected cash, gold ornaments and valuables worth Rs500,000 and escaped.

Two armed men held cell phone dealer Zaheer hostage in Hanjarwal and snatched cash and cell phone cards worth Rs200,000. Adnan Ahmad and his wife were on way home when two miscreants intercepted their motorcycle and deprived the couple of cash and gold jewellery worth Rs130,000.
