LAHORE, Sept 23: The Punjab communication and works minister has ordered an inquiry into the death of a passer-by who was hit by the debris and iron bars during the dismantling of a building in Faisalabad on Wednesday.

Ordering submission of a detailed report on the tragic incident on Thursday, minister Zaheeruddin Khan expressed grave concern over the execution of a mega project in the heart of the city in such a careless manner that it resulted in the death of an innocent citizen.

He was amazed on learning that no warning signs had been installed at the project site and not even a single supervisory officer of the department was present there to oversee the work.

He directed the C&W secretary to seek explanations from all the officers right from the superintending engineer to the sub-engineer about the incident besides issuing a show-cause notice to the contractor for failure to make the necessary safety arrangements before undertaking the demolition work.
