Qazi, Nawaz discuss cooperation

LAHORE, Sept 22: MMA President Qazi Hussain Ahmed met former prime minister Mian Nawaz Sharif in Jeddah on Wednesday and discussed with him the political situation in Pakistan. The possibility of cooperation between the MMA and the ARD also came under discussion.

Mr Sharif had invited the MMA chief to a dinner at his residence. Meanwhile, Mr Sharif said in a statement that Gen Musharraf was in no mood to quit peacefully and hence all democratic forces and people would have to make concerted efforts for the purpose.

He said his party had already launched a struggle against dictatorship and would be willing to take along any party or organization wanting restoration of the constitution as it existed before the overthrow of the PML-N government in October 1999.

The former prime minister also criticized the Punjab Assembly resolution in favour of Gen Musharraf's uniform. He disputed the claim that 96 per cent people wanted to see Gen Musharraf in uniform.
